The Sky Is Falling!!

RUN THE YANKEES LOST!

RUN THE YANKEES LOST!

After another loss by the Yankees, the world is ending. At least that’s what it sounds like on the ever buzzing NY sports radio stations. The Yankees are done, fire Girardi, Mark Teixeira is a bust, Cashman is clueless, etc., etc., etc. This is the non stop banter being shouted over the airwaves. The hosts of whatever show of course fan the fire because it makes for good radio, and big ratings. If I didn’t know better I would think the season was over next week, and the Yankees were going to miss the playoffs for the second year in a row.

I can agree, things don’t look good right now. In fact, they don’t look good at all. The Yankees lost in extra innings last night, their fourth loss in a row. They fall to a 13-14 record, and are 5.5 games behind… The Blue Jays (are they for real??). They remain 3.5 games behind the Red Sox… and A-Rod has yet to play a game.

I know A-Rod isn’t going to fix everything, but he will help. The Yankees can only get better. A-Rod adds something the team is lacking on the offensive side… depth. Everyone from the clean-up spot back moves down in the order. Teixeira will have a ton of pressure pulled off of him and have a monster protecting him… The offense will get better, maybe not overnight, but give it a few games and I see it clicking with A-Rod.

The pitching is another story… The starters need to get better. I think it will happen (based on past performance and resume), but it needs to start tonight with Pettitte. The pen is a mess, and the starters need to do their part to get deep in the game.

At some point soon the pen needs to be addressed. I am sure the Yankee front office is making calls, looking under every rock, nook, and cranny for help, but it isn’t going to be something that is solved overnight. I think the team should bring up Tomko and add him to the mix. He had a good spring, and is doing well for Scranton (13 IP, 15 K’s, 0.69 ERA). Those are solid numbers, and he can’t do worse than what we have going now.

After 27 games however, I am not about to call the team done. I don’t think anyone should be fired. I do think the team will bounce back, run a few wins off in a row, and quiet down the critics. Moves will be made, Alex will be back, and the Yankees will be in the playoff hunt come August.

If not, the radio will be insufferable to listen to this summer.

That’s it for now…

GO YANKEES!
